Bespoke Typography
We created the campaign for 2021 inspired by the 200 years anniversary of the Greek Revolution. Our challenge was to be inspired by the rich visual heritage of that time and form a contemporary typographic system that is deeply rooted to the past. The objective was to develop a unique display typeface that captures the spirit of that era as well as to incorporate music and rhythm as elements.
Our research on typed manifestos of that era, led us to the development of Bodoni Heroic. Having as a starting point the Bodoni typeface due to its historic relevance, we created a whimsical version of it which embodies the musical flow. The endings of the letters mix movement with rhythm. The unification of the past with the present, is perceived through the creation of memorable ligature glyphs.
The work was commissioned by the Athens State Orchestra in order to be used as the hero display Geek font for all the communications of the campaign, for both printed and digital applications.
